Day Getaway: Castlemaine

Hiya Pals,

Castlemaine is a slow-paced lovely town in the middle of Mount Alexander Shire. You may hear it’s Victoria’s ‘Northcote’ with a vibrant music and arts scene.

We honour Castlemaine and the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung People. They are the traditional custodians of this land.

Failing to check the weather, I headed off to Castlemaine on the Vline in jeans and a long-sleeve cotton shirt when it was 30*.

Day Getaway: Bendigo

Hiya Pals,
The rural city of Bendigo is the fourth largest city in Victoria. It has been known as a “city within a forest” being surrounded by lakes, reservoirs, wineries and gardens.

We honour that Bendigo is located on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung and the Taungurung Peoples of the Kulin Nation. They are the traditional custodians of this land.

Country Victoria has so many cities worth visiting, it just depends on what you’re after in a weekend away!

Melbourne: Your guide to museums

Hi Pals,
I was recently looking at some things on maps near my work and noticed that there were a few museums I’d never heard of. It got me thinking, how many museums are in Melbourne?

Wikipedia lists around 40, Airbnb said 30 but only listed 23 and with TripAdvisor listing 64 – that’s a lot of museums.

What classifies a Museum?
The International Association of Museums defines it as follows:
A non-profit making, permanent institution in the service of society and of its development, and open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits, for purposes of the study, education, and enjoyment, material evidence of people and their environment.

So with that, here’s a list of Museums in Melbourne that are worth some time.

Hi Pals,

Working that 9-5 [“what a way to make a living”] can make socialising a little bit difficult when you don’t want it to revolve around drinking. Now, Melbourne sure is big on that- but it’s also big on food, arts and culture!

I’ve gone ahead and read through numerous threads, forums, books and magazines to make a Monday – Friday after work/date/socialising calendar. All you really need is your Myki. Some I’ve done, some of my friends have and others I’ve just found through their websites or word of mouth.

So, with that – Here’s a list of things to do in Melbourne after 5pm on weekdays.

Canberra is kinda cool, really.

Hiya Pals,

I recently went to the capital of Australia, Canberra for a weekend away. The main reason I go is that I have friends who live there but I also really enjoy the city!

You might have heard that Canberra recently made #3 in a Lonely Planet for Top Cities, along with Seville, Detroit, Hamburg and Oslo. However, it’s for those cities they believe is up and coming. (Unsure about why Oslo is there? It’s probably because of a) the cost to get there B) then cost to stay there. I don’t think that’s reason enough but hey, I’m not LP.)

The reason I’m doing this post is that whilst in Canberra we got talking about lists why you should go there. I’m not going to link the list, but the last reason was that “you can pet a cheetah.” Can you do it? Yes. Should you do it? Probably not.

Anyways, these are my favourite things in Canberra to do and thus What you should do when you go to Canberra!
